On your Knees?

Speech seems to be a piece of cake for her, not too much stress, and Gracie does what she is asked when she can keep her attention on the task at hand. She has a habit of checking out all the people around her (a bit nosey like her dad).
On the other hand, there is occupational therapy. Gracie is not quite so fond of the activity that goes on during this thirty minutes. For a while she will play and all is good. But then the hard work begins and she is not too enthusiastic about one specific part of this therapy.
Gracie is getting around very well and she does it in a way I have never seen before. She scoots on her bottom wherever she wants to go. I can look at her one minute and then zoom she is across the floor the next. It really is very impressive how she pulls this off.
This works just fine for Gracie but Cheri, her occupational therapist, knows she needs to crawl. Gracie does not think this is such a grand idea. Thus, there is a conflict between the two, one trying not to crawl and other trying to get her to.
Cheri is good at what she does and she will use her skills to entice Gracie to move forward for something. As she does, she will then take Gracie’s legs and put them into the crawling position which of course means putting her on her knees. Gracie fights this with all she has and will only stay in the position for just a moment before she finds herself back on her bottom.
They go round and around with this. The one who knows best working to get the other to do what is best by getting her on her knees. It is the same with us and God.
God wants us on our knees; we think there are better ways.
We, like Gracie, find ways to get around what is best. We think our way is the easiest and so we try that first. Our way still gets us around and so we can’t imagine why God would want us to do anything different. Hey, it works we think, and onward we go scooting along on our own path.
The Lord may be working on you and putting you in some very difficult positions all in order to bring you to your knees where you need to be. Crawling does not seem to be exciting to Gracie, and it does not seem to be that exciting to us as well. We want to fly into what we want without ever taking it to our knees. Unfortunately when we do that, it leaves out a necessary step and disaster occurs.
Then where do we go? You got it. On our knees asking God for help. God wants you to reverse the process because He knows best how to help you walk for the long haul. A little trust goes a long way.
Gracie one day will walk, I am sure of it. But only after those who love her and know what is best for her do their utmost to put her in the proper position. Trust me - God is doing the same with you. Though you may be fighting Him, He is working in your best interest.
Do you want to walk or scoot? Stop resisting, go to your knees, you will be walking before you know it.
Scripture: Psalm 95:5-6,
“The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our maker;”
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to not resist the urge to pray but to be persistent in praying. Help us when our faith is week, give us resolve and the knowledge that your way is best. Lead us to be people of prayer. We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
